OUR STORY


Founded in 1981 by Charlie Walker with just three employees, Walker Engineering has grown into Texas’s leading electrical contracting and technology services firm. Today, we have over 1,750 employees and a strong presence in four major cities – Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. Our success is built on a foundation of hard work, dedication, and a commitment to excellence that has remained unchanged since our founding. FOUNDED

Charles F. Walker, PE started Walker Engineering, Inc. Electrical Contractors and Engineers in Dallas, TX with only three employees.

FIRST OFFICE

First office opened on Bowser Rd. in Richardson, TX

PETAL STREET

Petal Street Office was built (10999 Petal St Dallas, TX 75238)

LARGEST PLANT

Advanced Micro Devices Semi-conductor Plant was built in Austin, TX. This was, at the time, the largest project ever completed by Walker Engineering, Inc.

1000 EMPLOYEES

Walker’s headcount reached 1,000 employees for the first time. Walker now has offices in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio.

ACQUISITION

Walker acquired MH Technologies which would later become the Walker Houston Division.

GROWTH

Charlie catapulted Walker Engineering, Inc. from a start-up company with a single location in Fort Worth, TX to a fully deployed company with a significant work backlog, over 1000 employees and operations in Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio and Houston.

NEW MILESTONE

Walker completes the $75.5M WLO Data Center Project in San Antonio, TX. This is the largest contract completed to-date.

NEW HEADQUARTERS

Walker opens its newly-remodeled Corporate Headquarters at 1505 W. Walnut Hill Lane in Irving, TX, including an onsite pre-fabrication shop and 16,000 SQFT Warehouse.

$3 BILLLION

Walker surpasses $3 Billion in electrical and low voltage revenue since its inception in 1981.

CHANGE OF GUARD

A line of succession is established as Scott Walker is named Chief Executive Officer and Brent Walker named President.

NEW HOUSTON OFFICE

With continued growth in the Houston Markets, a new ground-up office location at 7761 W. Little York Rd is built to better serve our customers and employees.

2000 EMPLOYEES

Walker’s headcount surpasses 2,000 employees for the first time in company history and annual company revenue surpasses $425M.

WALKER ACQUIRED

Comfort Systems USA, Inc. acquired all of the issued and outstanding equity interests of Walker TX Holding Company, LLC and each of its wholly-owned subsidiaries (collectively “Walker”). Comfort Systems USA, Inc., a publicly-traded company (NYSE: FIX), is a leading provider of commercial, industrial and institutional heating, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical contracting services with 132 locations in 115 cities around the nation.

Walker Engineering is Texas’s leading open-shop electrical contractor, with a workforce averaging around 1,750 personnel. With no reliance on temporary labor agencies for complex projects, we are committed to ensuring that every member of our highly skilled workforce receives ongoing training and development, enabling the company to deliver top-quality electrical services safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Our entire workforce can be deployed statewide for large projects, drawing on existing personnel from other Walker projects in the DFW, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio markets.

  • At Walker, we believe that safety is a team effort, which is why we work closely with our clients to ensure safety on every job site. Our GC/Client Safety Partnership approach fosters collaboration, communication, and coordination to ensure that all site-specific safety requirements are identified and addressed. By prioritizing these partnership efforts, we’re able to ensure that our personnel are fully informed of potential safety hazards and have the necessary training and equipment to mitigate risks on the job.

  • We have a dedicated team of over 25 safety professionals who are committed to ensuring the safety of our employees and clients. Led by the VP of Safety and Loss Prevention, and supported by division-level safety managers, our team includes individuals with safety certifications such as PE, CSP, CHST, CHSO, SSH and OSHA, ensuring that our safety programs are of the highest level of excellence.

  • We are committed to providing a safe, clean and secure workplace for all of our employees. Safety training programs including: CPR & AED Scaffold, Ladder, Fall Protection Forklift, Scissor Lift & Boom Lift OSHA 10-Hour & OSHA 30-Hour Arc Flash Awareness / Energized Work Excavation & Confined Space

  • Lock-out / Tag-out is critical to providing a safety plan for our employees and other trades, especially large and challenging projects where electrical equipment energization poses a serious risk. Walker utilizes a comprehensive Lock-out / Tag-out program tailored to each type of project and designed to identify and control hazardous energy sources, preventing serious injuries and accidents. By prioritizing safety in these high-risk environments, we ensure that our employees return home safely to their families each day.

  • Walker takes an Operational Risk Management (ORM) approach to ensure maximum safety performance on projects. By utilizing the Team Concept, our crews are familiarized with the hazards of the anticipated tasks daily through Process Specific Engagement, Pre-Task Plans, Mindset Focus, Deviation Planning, and Coaching. We prioritize communication and understanding with our partners on the site, and are willing to share our ORM process with the GC, Owner and other trades, ensuring that all workers return home safely each day.

  • Walker’s employee-focused safety program is centered around topics like change management, micro-training, mentorship, and job-specific on-site orientation. From equipment and tool training to employee preparation and orientation, we ensure our teams are prepared and equipped to tackle any task safely and efficiently.
